It is the eastern gate of the city walls around Ephesus. Panayır Mountain was fortified with Lysimachus walls, which consist of two parts that are thought to have been built at separate times. On the slightly sloping land between Panayır Mountain and Bülbül Mountain, there is the Magnesia Gate, the only city gate unearthed by excavations. The Artemision road, rebuilt by Damianus, and the roads leading to Menderes Magnesias and Kaystros valley started from here.
